(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at approximately 1:05 p.m., Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision on Hwy. 6 north of Hepworth in South Bruce Peninsula involving a 2002 Chevrolet Venture van and a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze.
The van and the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze were travelling in opposite directions on Hwy6 near Meadowland Road when the collision occurred.
The Chevrolet Cruze was southbound on Hwy. 6 near Meadowland Road, when it crossed the centre line into the path of northbound traffic. The first northbound vehicle was able to avoid the Chevrolet, which then collided with driver’s side quarter panel area of the Venture van. The impact caused the van to roll at least twice before coming to a rest on all four tires.
The South Bruce Peninsula Fire Department and the Grey-Bruce Emergency Services (EMS) assisted at the scene.
The driver of the van, Douglas CAMPBELL, 53, of Corunna, Ontario and his wife, age 52, were transported to the Wiarton Hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries. Their daughter, age 24, received minor injuries. All three occupants were wearing their seatbelts, which was a major contributing factor to their survival in this collision.
The driver of the Chevrolet Cruze, Sydney RYAN, 16, of Georgian Bluffs and her 17 year old female passenger, from Wiarton, were transported to the Owen Sound Hospital with minor injuries and released.
RYAN was charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act
