Two Sent To Hospital – 85 Year Old Driver Charged With Fail To Yield

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) Shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday April 11, 2012, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Perth Line 20 and Perth Road 130.

The collision involved a south bound Dodge Journey on Perth Road 130 which proceeded into the path of a Chevy pickup truck which was traveling east bound on Perth Line 20. The Dodge passenger side front corner was struck by the Chevy’s driver’s side front corner. The impact forced both vehicles towards the south east corner of the intersection where a light standard was knocked down resulting in downed power lines.

Both drivers sustained non life threatening injuries and were transported to Stratford General Hospital. Hydro One attended and made the necessary repairs.

The driver of the Dodge, an 85 year old male from Stratford, was charged with “failing to yield to through traffic”. The driver of the Chevy truck was a 55 year old male from Waterloo.

This collision is another example of a stop sign controlled intersection where an 80 km/h impact could have resulted in much more serious injuries. Motorists are urged to “STOP AND LOOK” and to refrain from being distracted.

Driving requires our full attention!
