(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – On Wednesday evening August 31, 2016, two motorists, within minutes of each other, felt the need to travel at irresponsible speeds on Perth County roads. Both motorists have been charged with “racing”.
(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) – Shortly before 9 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted a fast moving westbound motor vehicle on Perth Line 20 East of Road 150 (south of Carlingford). The speed of the vehicle was measured with a RADAR device at 142 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. 21-year-old Devin O’BRIEN from the Municipality of Bluewater was served a summons for the charge of Racing. He will have to attend Stratford Court on October 11, 2016, to answer to this charge. His driving privileges were taken away for seven days and his Lexus GS3 was towed from the scene and has been impounded for a week. The driver continued his travels by taking a taxi from the scene.
(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – A few minutes after 9 p.m., a Perth County OPP officer observed a motor vehicle driving southbound on Perth Road 121, north of Line 67 (south of Millbank), which appeared to be travelling in excess of the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The officer measured the speed of the southbound motor vehicle and determined the speed to be 146 km/h. The vehicle was pulled over and the 17-year-old female driver who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charged with “racing”. She will have to appear in Stratford Court on September 27, 2016, where she will answer to this charge. The Honda Civic she was operating, was towed from the scene and has been impounded for a period of seven days. She also received an immediate seven day driver’s licence suspension. Police ensured that she was safely transported from the roadside.
The Perth County OPP wants to remind motorists that during the Labour Day long weekend officers will be out on Perth County roads looking for irresponsible drivers. Many behaviors do not mix with driving, such as speed, aggressiveness, intoxicating substances, distractions, unsafe vehicles and fatigue, just to name a few.
Don’t jeopardize everyone’s safety by taking chances out on our roads.
