Two Oakville Youths Rescued at Lions Valley Park

The Halton Regional Police Service, Oakville Fire and Halton Paramedics worked together to rescue two youths stranded in Sixteen Mile Creek on Wednesday January 4th, 2017. At approximately 10:30 am the two teens ages 13 years and 16 years called 911 to report they had fallen into Sixteen Mile Creek in Lions Valley Park.

The youths were walking along the creek when the younger boy slipped on the creek bank, the older youth came to his assistance but both boys were swept downstream by the fast moving waters. The teens were able to reach the west shore and call for help on a cell phone but were stranded and cold on the westside of the creek.

Oakville Fire and police were able to safely reach the boys using cold weather equipment.

The Oakville youths did not suffer any significant injuries but were suffering from minor exposure. Both teens were taken to hospital as a precaution in the company of their parents who attended the scene.

Police remind the public to stay safe distances from creek and river edges during winter thaws and in the spring. Unstable shores and fast moving currents can cause dangerous conditions.
