The Chatham-Kent police have arrested two men following a couple break and enters in Chatham.
On July 26, 2014 around 3:40 a.m. police responded to a break and enter on Briardene Street. Upon police arrival, the homeowner reported that he awoke to noise coming from his garage. He ran out to find that unknown suspect(s) had entered his unlocked car parked in the driveway and stolen his wallet and remote garage door opener. The suspect(s) entered the garage and stole two racing bicycles and a Honda dirt bike with a total value of about $8200. The homeowner got in his vehicle and drove around the area in search of the suspect(s). At this time, he observed a man riding one of the stolen bicycles southbound on Victoria Avenue. The suspect dropped the bicycle and fled the area on foot. The homeowner also observed another suspicious man walking in the area. The stolen dirt bike and second stolen bicycle were both located nearby and returned to the homeowner.
Police further received a second report of a break and enter on this street where unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked shed and stole a men’s Supercycle mountain bike value at approximately $200.
Around 6:15 a.m. police located the stolen Supercycle mountain bike at a motel on Grand Avenue East in Chatham. Officers arrested the man in possession of the bike and upon being searched he was found to be in possession of a pry bar, pair of gloves, drill bit and flashlight. The 24-year-old Chatham man was charged with break and enter x2, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and being in possession of break-in instruments. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
Through investigation, police identified the second man involved. Yesterday, the 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with break and enter. He was released with conditions pending a future court date.
