Two Charged In Steel Roofing Fraud

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – In the fall of 2014 the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit investigated allegations of fraud and the forgery of documents by a salesman and the owner of a roofing company.

Investigation revealed that the males sold steel roofs to a resident in Arthur and Kincardine. The steel roofs were purported to be produced and guaranteed by a reputable Canadian steel roofing manufacturing and installation company. When the homeowners attempted to obtain their 50 year warranty documentation or warranty repairs, they discovered that there was no coverage since the sale and installation had been fraudulent.

Roch BEAULIEU (40) from French River and Stephen HORBATIUK (58) from Burlington have each been charged with two counts of “fraud over $5.000”, and two counts of “uttering forged document” contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. Both males have been released on a Promise to Appear and are scheduled to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on Tuesday January 27, 2015, to answer to these charges.

Police are continuing to investigate similar complaints in other jurisdictions.
