Two Charged In Home Invasion

On Monday November 21, 2016, just shortly before 7:00pm, Hamilton Police officers were dispatched to 135 James Street South after receiving reports of a robbery.

It was indicated that two masked men attended to the victim’s residence and knocked on the door. The victim unknowingly opened the door for the two suspects, believing it was somebody he knew.

The suspects forced their way into the apartment and made an attempt to restrain the victim. The victim was able to escape and run out of the apartment where he was able to alert other citizens.

The two suspects later fled the apartment, only to be confronted by citizens in the area within the building, where a struggle ensued. One of the suspects displayed a firearm believed to be a hand gun at the time. The second suspect displayed an edged weapon believed to be a knife. The suspects were physically detained by the citizens, until police officers could arrive on scene.

CHARGED: Kevin FRANKS, a 33 year old man from Hamilton

CHARGES: Forcible Confinement, Robbery with intent to steal, Disguise with Intent, Firearm or imitation – Use of during an offence

CHARGED: Dylan MACDONALD, a 21 year old man from Stoney Creek

CHARGES: Assault (Weapon), Forcible Confinement, Robbery with intent to steal, Disguise with Intent

Both suspects are now before the courts to answer to these charges.

The suspects sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital by paramedics.

The victim and another citizen detaining the suspects sustained minor injuries. They too were transported to the hospital and treated for their injuries.

Detectives believe this was a targeted incident. Police continue to encourage the public to contact police should they believe a crime is occurring.
