(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) – On Thursday July 02, 2015 around 2 a.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers on patrol in Mitchell observed four youths walking in the Coulton street, and Henry street area.
A 17 year old male youth and a 15 year old female youth were charged with “person under 19 years consuming liquor”, contrary to the liquor license act of Ontario. Two other 14 year old males were warned for liquor offences. The youths under the age of 16 were apprehended and taken to a place of safety and left in the care of their parents.
Parents and youth need to realize that the provincial curfew in enforced by the Perth County OPP. This curfew falls under the authority of the Ontario Child and Family Services Act and covers all Ontario jurisdictions. The act states that children under the age of 16 cannot be in a public place or place of public entertainment between the hours of midnight and 6:00 a.m. without a responsible adult present. Such children may be apprehended without warrant and taken home or to a place of safety.
