Truck Owner Dragged In Durham By Vehicle Thief

On Aug. 5, 2016 at 8:15 a.m. a stolen motorhome from Hanover was recovered on Garafraxa St. S. in Durham. It had extensive damage done to it, as it had been involved in a fail to remain accident on Concession 2 NDR in Bentinck Twp.

Within minutes of recovering the motorhome police received a report of a window of a vehicle being smashed at a residence on Durham Road West in Durham. A few minutes later police received a report of a break and enter of a residence at another residence on Durham Road West in Durham.

The female occupant reported that a male had entered her residence and taken the keys to her truck and stolen the truck, she attempted to stop the male and was dragged by the vehicle. She was transported to the Durham hospital by ambulance where she was treated and released.

It was later determined that a second residence on George St. West in Durham had also been broken into by the same person. On Aug. 6, 2016 police in Hanover arrested a 31 year old Hanover resident for an unrelated break and enter. Investigation revealed that this was the same individual responsible for the incidents in Durham on Aug. 5. As a result this male is being held for a bail hearing charged with two counts of failing to remain at an accident, two counts of mischief, two counts of break and enter, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and theft of a motor vehicle.
