Truck Collision Results In Lane Closures On Hwy 7

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) On Tuesday May 22, 2012 at approximately 10:45 a.m. Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Perth Line 20 and Hwy. 7.

Investigation revealed that a truck pulling a 53 foot livestock trailer loaded with pigs, had been north bound on Hwy 7 and then proceeded to turn left (west) onto Perth Line 20. The livestock truck turned directly in the path of a south bound “stake truck”. The driver of the stake truck attempted to evade colliding with the livestock truck by entering into the north bound lane of Hwy 7. The passenger side of the “stake truck” struck the front passenger side corner of the livestock trailer causing extensive frontal damage to the “stake truck”. The damage to the livestock trailer was minor and none of the pigs inside were injured.

The passenger in the stake truck, and the driver of the livestock truck were treated by ambulance attendants at the scene. The driver of the “stake truck”, a Beamsville resident was not injured as a result of the collision. The driver of the livestock truck, a 64 year old male from the Township of Perth South has been charged with “turn not in safety”.

The south bound lane of Hwy. 7 was closed for 1 ½ hours to allow for the safe removal of the “stake truck” by a heavy tow truck.
