Transport Truck Runs Stop Sign With 500 Pigs – ACW Man Charged

(NORTH MIDDLESEX, ON) – On September 10, 2015, at approximately 1:13 p.m., the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and the local Fire Department, responded to a single motor vehicle crash on Kerwood Road, at the intersection of Elginfield Road.

A transport truck was travelling northbound on Kerwood Road. It failed to stop for the stop sign at Elginfield Road, left the roadway, and entered the ditch on the northeast side of the intersection.

The livestock trailer, carrying approximately 500 pigs, remained upright, and on the roadway. None of the animals were injured.

A fuel tank on the cab was damaged, and a small amount of diesel fuel leaked from the tank. The Ministry of the Environment was notified.

The 38-year-old driver, Steven SLOTEGRAAF, from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township, Ontario, was charged with disobey stop sign, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
