(WEST PERTH TOWNSHIP, ON.) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a collision involving a train and a transport truck on Road 155 at approximately 8:50 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2017.
Through investigation it appears that the unloaded transport truck and trailer was travelling southbound on Road 155, just east of Mitchell, approaching an passive railway crossing. A Goderich Exeter Railway (GEXR) train was westbound on the tracks. The tractor trailer failed to stop prior to crossing railway. The train was unable to stop in time and collided with the trailer causing the front two locomotives to derail. The train was hauling eight rail cars, five loaded with grain and three empty at the time of the collision.
The transport truck driver was treated for minor injuries. The GEXR employees on the train at the time were not injured.
As a result of the collision the railway line and Road 155 will remain closed for a few days to assist with clean up and repairing the tracks.(Photos attached)

Police are advising the public to avoid the area and obey all road closures.
The investigation is continuing.
