(PERTH COUNTY, ON) The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) report that over the Easter Long weekend their officers paid particular attention to unsafe drivers on the road. As a result a large number of drivers were charged, lost driving privileges and had their vehicles impounded.
Between Friday March 29, 2013 and Monday April 01, 2013, Perth County OPP officers charged four drivers with racing. Each of these four drivers was operating their motor vehicle in excess of 50 km/h above the posted speed limit. These four represent the highest number of racing charges laid in any county within western Ontario OPP patrolled roadways where a total of 14 racing charges were laid.
In addition, Perth County OPP officers charged 5 drivers for not wearing their seatbelt, 4 with distracted driving, 1 with drug possession, 132 for speeding, 19 others for moving offences, and 6 for insurance violations. Officers also conducted 12 R.I.D.E. programs where they stopped two motorists who had been drinking and registered a blood alcohol concentration reading from .05 to .08 on a roadside screening device. These drivers lost their licence for 3 days.
