TRACTOR TRAILER BLOWS THROUGH STOP SIGN, TAKES THE DITCH
(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Thursday April 12, 2012 shortly after 3 a.m. Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a tractor trailer crash at the intersection of Perth Line 43 and Perth Road 119 (south of Gads Hill).
Investigation revealed that at approximately 2:30 a.m. a west bound 2011 Mack truck pulling an empty chicken trailer failed to stop at the T intersection and drove into the field west of Perth Road 119. The truck fortunately missed trees and road signs thereby avoiding injury to the lone male trucker.
The truck and trailer, owned by a Port Colborne Delivery Service, sustained extensive damage and required a heavy tow truck to be removed from the scene. Traffic on Perth Road 119 was reduced to a single lane while the rig was being removed.
The 41 year old male truck driver from Wainfleet was charged with “careless drivingâ€Â. The intersection is well signed, illuminated and rumble strips are grooved in the pavement to warn drivers of the intersection ahead.
