(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) – On Friday July 08, 2016, around 4:15 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a three vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 23 at Perth Line 44 in Bornholm.
Investigation revealed that a Honda sedan was travelling eastbound on Perth Line 44 approaching the Highway 23 intersection. The Honda did not stop at the stop sign controlled intersection and was struck by a Volkswagen sedan travelling northbound on Hwy 23. The Volkswagen struck the rear corner of the Honda causing it to lose control, roll and strike a Nissan pickup truck that was stopped in the westbound lane on Perth Line 44 east of the intersection.
The 42-year-old female driver of the Volkswagen and the 29-year-old male driver of the Nissan, both Municipality of West Perth residents sustained minimal injuries. The driver of the Honda a 23-year-old male driver from Toronto also sustained minimal injuries. All three drivers were transported to a local hospital as a precaution. The three vehicles sustained severe damage.
The driver of the Honda has been charged with “disobey stop sign – fail to stop”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
This collision had the potential cause serious if not fatal injuries. In this case all drivers involved were fortunate however drivers should always be conscious of intersections and the importance of stopping and yielding at stop signs.
