(HURON COUNTY, ON) – Following yesterday’s storm that ripped through the area road maintenance crews have been very busy cleaning up numerous roadways throughout Huron County. Removing stuck vehicles and clearing off heavy drifts has been the focus for crews this morning. The road and weather conditions have improved in several areas however some roadways are still not safe for travel due to the existing conditions.
As of 9:15 a.m. the following three roadways remain closed in Huron County:
Bluewater Veteran’s Highway (Highway 21) from Goderich to Amberley
Base Line (County 8) from Clinton to Auburn
Lucknow Line (County 1) from Carlow to Lucknow
Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind motorists to stay off the remaining closed roadways in Huron County. Do not jeopardize your safety by driving on these roadways. Drivers are reminded that driving on a closed roadway may result in a $110 fine and 3 demerit points if convicted.
All motorists are encouraged to regularly check weather and road travel conditions by monitoring local media sources. Additionally motorists can call 5-1-1 or check online at www.Ontario.ca/trip for up- to-date road conditions for provincially maintained highways. This bilingual service is available 24 hours a day and provides updates on highway closures and road conditions.
Do Not call the OPP Provincial Communications Centre (PCC) for road and weather conditions. Police will not provide this information. By calling the PCC it ties up phone lines and personnel used for emergency calls.
