(SOUTH HURON, ON) – The first driver that entered a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint yesterday had to find an alternative means of transportation after his vehicle was towed and driver’s licence suspended. At approximately 8:20 p.m. a blue Volkswagen Jetta entered the R.I.D.E checkpoint set up at the intersection of Huron Street and Morrison Line.
A Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spoke with the driver and detected the driver had been drinking alcohol. The officer also observed an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle. A roadside test was administered which resulted in a fail for the driver. The driver was subsequently transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. The tests resulted in a warn range suspension for the driver.
The 26 year old male driver from South Huron was charged under the Liquor Licence Act for Driving a Motor Vehicle with Open Alcohol. Also, he was served with an automatic three day driver’s licence suspension.
