(South Huron, ON) On August 6, 2010 at approximately 11:00 pm, Huron OPP officers were called by a pedestrian in Exeter regarding an off-road vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Marlborough Street. Neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing a helmet.
Officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it however the driver fled from police. Other officers came into the area to assist with locating the vehicle and it was finally stopped successfully.
The driver was arrested for Dangerous Driving and Flight from police but upon speaking with the male, officers observed signs that he was also impaired by alcohol. Upon arrest, the male fought with police and resisted his arrest. The male was finally taken to the Huron OPP Detachment where he met with a qualified Intoxilizer Technician to provide two samples of his breath. His readings were below the legal limit of 80 milligrams.
As a result of the incident and further investigation, Thomas William WHITE (19) of South Huron has been charged with one count of Dangerous Driving, one count of Drive Off-Road Vehicle with No Licence, one count of Obstruct/Resist Peace Officer, one count of Flight from Police, one count of Drive All-Terrain Vehicle with Passenger, one count of Drive All-Terrain Vehicle No Insurance, one count of Drive All-Terrain Vehicle No Number Plate and one count of Drive All-Terrain Vehicle No Helmet. The male was held in custody and is returning to the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on August 9, 2010.
