Thief Steals Backpack While Owner Visits Washroom

Date: Tuesday, December 16, 2014 – 3:00am

On the 16th of December 2014 at approximately 8:30am, the male victim was in a downtown restaurant when he left his table to use the washroom. In leaving the table the victim left his backpack on the chair. It was at this time the male suspect approached the table and took the knapsack leaving the restaurant.

When the victim returned and discovered the bag missing he contacted police and reported the theft. Police attended observed video footage identifying a description of the suspect.

At approximately 2:30pm, the male suspect returned to the restaurant and was recognized by employees who then called police to apprehend the suspect. Upon police arrival officers approached the male who was still in possession of the stolen bag.

The male was arrested and bag recovered. The male was held for bail as he is currently on outstanding charges for theft. The 30 year old Barrie male now faces charges of theft, possession of stolen property and two counts of breaching his probation.
