The London Police Service is encouraging everyone to lock their vehicles and to leave anything of any value out of sight.
From November 14, 2014 until December 12, 2014, there were 20 reported incidents of thefts from vehicles in the neighbourhood bounded by Commissioners Road to the north, Bradley Avenue to the south, Meadowgate Boulevard to the west and Jackson Road to the east. Subsequent to the media release sent out on Friday, December 12, 2014, the activity had stopped.
The problem has since re-emerged in the Summerside area as well as into the subdivisions on the west side of Highbury Avenue, as displayed in the attached map. There have been 12 reported thefts from vehicles in this area between January 5-19, 2015. These thefts are generally occurring between midnight and 5:00 a.m.
Suspects are attempting door handles or smashing windows in order to retrieve items left inside the vehicle. These items include but are not limited to laptops, GPS units, iPods, wallets, etc.
Thefts from vehicles are occurring throughout the entire city, therefore everyone should be vigilant. Neighbours are asked to look out for one another and to report all suspicious activity by calling 519-661-5670 or 911.
The Crime Analysis Unit of the London Police Service detected this pattern using analytical software purchased using a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services. The mapping software can be viewed at this link:
