Theft Of Vehicles Results In Two Arrests

(PERTH & HURON COUNTY, ON) On Wednesday October 26, 2011 before 5 a.m. Perth County OPP officers were called to a residence on Elma St. West in Listowel where the home owner reported the theft of his trailer and ATV.

Huron and Perth County OPP officers patrolled for a vehicle towing the stolen trailer and ATV. Shortly after 5 a.m. officers observed a pickup truck with the stolen trailer and ATV attached, in the area of Road 180 and Perth Line 55 west of Monkton. Officers followed the vehicle into Huron County where it headed west bound on Moncrief Rd. Officers deployed a spike belt, resulting in the vehicle driving into a ditch area along London Road. Two male persons ran from the pickup truck and were arrested. The ditched Pickup truck was found to have been stolen from a North Huron address.

The two males currently in custody will be held for a bail hearing in Goderich on Wednesday October 26, 2011.

The Perth and Huron OPP Crime Units with the assistance of the OPP West Region Identification Unit out of Mount Forest are actively investigating this incident.

The OPP is also reminding the public to be vigilant in securing their vehicles and residential properties as criminals are taking advantage of opportunities afforded to them by our trusting population. Persons observing unusual activities in their neighbourhoods are urged to immediately contact the police.
