Theft of Mail

On December 17th 2013, the Barrie Police commenced an investigation into theft and mischief to community mailboxes in the south west part of the city. During the holiday season, witnesses contacted police regarding suspects that appeared to be breaking into mail boxes situated on various streets. Through investigation, officers were able to identify a suspect. Officers continued their investigation and as a result an arrest warrant was obtained for a 28 year old male.

On January 30th 2014 police arrested the male at his southend residence.

The male and his 22 year old girlfriend who is eight months pregnant were both interviewed by police. As a result, the officers were able to link the accused male to a rash of similar mailbox thefts in August 2013. The female was found to be responsible for the recent thefts and mischiefs.

As a result the 28 year old Barrie male was charged with Mischief Under $5000 X12, Attempt Theft of Mail x12, Theft of Mail x1 and Fail to comply with Probation X2
The 22 year old Barrie female was charged with Attempt Theft of Mail x3 and Mischief Under $5000 x3

Both will have a court date in April 2014.
