(HURON COUNTY, ON) – Officers from the Huron County & Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachments are teaming up tomorrow for a large scale R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) initiative. Huron’s largest ever single day R.I.D.E program coincides with start of Operation Impact, which is a national traffic initiative to save lives and reduce serious injuries.
Officers will be “kicking off†the massive R.I.D.E program in front of the Grand Bend Medical Clinic located just east of Grand Bend on County Road 81 at 3:00 p.m. Extra officers from both detachments will be on duty supporting the R.I.D.E program. After the initial launch several checkpoints will be set up at strategic locations throughout each county.
The Huron County and Lambton County OPP Detachments encourage our media partners to attend in an effort to support our continued commitment to road safety.
Operation Impact begins Friday, October 5th and runs through the Thanksgiving weekend ending on October 8, 2012. Impaired driving has been identified as one of the “Big Four†casual factors that continue to be the primary sources contributing to serious injuries and deaths in motor vehicle collisions.
Impaired driving continues to be a serious problem throughout the Province of Ontario. Officers from Huron County and Lambton County continue to make it a priority to reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roadways.
If you see an impaired driver please call 911, as we all have a shared responsibility in ensuring our roadways are safe.
