The Ontario Civilian Police Commission announces a decision regarding the Hanover Police Service Communications Centre

On October 16th 2012 the Ontario Civilian Police Commission announced the
approval of the reduction of civilian employees with the Hanover Police Service
as the Hanover Police Services Board looks to close its Police and Fire
Communications Centre at the end of 2012.

A public hearing pursuant to Section 40 of the Police Services Act of Ontario was
held in Hanover on August Brh,2012. At the hearing, the Commission heard
submissions on behalf of the Hanover Police Services Board, the Hanover Police
Association, along with members of the public.

In the written decision, the Commission acknowledged that the Hanover Police
Services Board is trying to live within its means by reducing expenses to meet a
revenue reduction. The revenue reduction was as a result of two municipalities
opting not to renew their contracts with the Hanover Police Services Board for
emergency communications effective in 2013. The Commission went on to say
that in their opinion the Hanover Police Services Board is wise to do so”
The Hanover Police and Fire Communications Centre will continue to provide
Pofice and Fire Communications to the 21 fire departments and 3 police services
in Grey
