(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – On April 4, 2016 at 4:02 p.m., the Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received call from a concerned citizen regarding an attempted fraud.
Police learned the citizen received a text on their cell phone from the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA). Along with the text was a website link to a CRA site which looked legitimate. The site contains automatic prompts which requests your name, social insurance number, address, and credit card number to name a few.
The Bruce Peninsula OPP encourages citizens to continue talking to family and friends to spread the word and protect each other from the various scams. The persons behind these scams will continue to change and evolve their attempts to trick people. They want you to hand over your money, using high pressure tactics and lies.
