Teens Turn Themselves In After Endangering 400 Central Huron Secondary School Students

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Two local high school students are facing some serious driving related charges following an incident that probably started out as a joke for the pair. On Wednesday, June 1, 2016 a group of about 400 students and staff members from Central Huron Secondary School (CHSS) participated in a walk-a-thon fundraiser walking from CHSS to Varna.

At approximately 11:00 a.m. a side- by-side go-cart style UTV and a 4-wheel ATV raced down Bannockburn Line toward the large group of walkers driving in a reckless manner. The drivers of the off-road machines whizzed by dangerously close to the walkers and police cruiser that was leading the escort. The officer attempted a traffic stop however the young drivers failed to stop and fled into the bush.

Less than a half-hour later the two dangerous drivers returned and were once again observed driving in an erratic manner nearly hitting some of the students. In addition, they were observed doing donuts and spraying gravel in all directions nearly striking the walkers and the police cruiser. For a second time they sped away from the police officer, however this time they were identified by some of the witnesses.

The drivers later turned themselves into police whereupon they were both spoken to and charged.

Two fifteen-year-old boys from Bluewater have been charged with the following offences:

Dangerous Driving

Drive Motor Vehicle No Licence

Fail to Stop for Police

Drive Off-Road Vehicle No Number Plate

They will both have to attend the Youth Justice Court in Goderich later this summer.
