Teen Seriously Burned After Being Thrown In Fire – Police Seek Witnesses

Investigators with the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are looking to speak to additional witnesses or anyone with information after a teen was seriously burned in a bonfire at a bush party in the Town of East Gwillimbury.

On Monday, September 5, 2016, shortly before 1 a.m., officers attended an area behind the Holland Landing Community Centre which is located at 19513 Yonge Street, for a report that a teen had been injured at a bush party. Officers were directed to a 16-year-old boy who was suffering from significant burns. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

The investigation has revealed that there was a bush party taking place in that area where there was an estimated 150 teens from area high schools in attendance. During the party a group of four men attended and instigated a number of altercations with party-goers. In one of the altercations a suspect threw the teen into the bonfire and as a result he was seriously injured.

Investigators are appealing to witnesses to come forward and provide information on the identity of the suspect. They would also like to speak with anyone that may have taken mobile phone pictures during the party.

The suspect is described as:

Male, black

17 to 19 years

5’11 to 6’1″

Thin but muscular build with short black hair

Spoke with a thick Jamaican accent.

The investigation is ongoing.
