In May of 2016, the Hamilton Police Service commenced an investigation into child sexual abuse which developed into an on-line child exploitation investigation. The investigation led to a review of a historical child sexual assault investigation that had occurred between January 2007 and December 2008 in the City of Hamilton.
On Tuesday September 20, 2016, Geoffrey Burnet was arrested and charged by the Hamilton Police Service. Geoffrey Burnet was released on a Recognizance after a bail hearing Wednesday September 21, 2016.
Geoffrey Burnet has been identified as a School Teacher who is currently employed by the Columbia International College. Investigation has also confirmed that Burnet has been employed by the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board and the Upper Grand District School Board as well as the Toronto District School Board.

The Hamilton Police Service Victims of Crime Unit continue to investigate and believe that there may be more victims who have had contact with Geoffrey Burnet.
