Taxpayers To Spend $250,000 On Wingham Town Hall Repairs, Windows and Paint

WINGHAM, Ontario – Across the country, community centres, cultural centres, ice rinks, swimming pools, and other community projects will soon be improved thanks to support from the Government of Canada’s Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

As part of the Government’s Economic Action Plan 2012, Ben Lobb, Member of Parliament for Huron-Bruce today announced federal funding for the North Huron Town Hall under the Fund.

“I am pleased that our Government is supporting communities and helping to contribute to the local economies by creating jobs and stimulating the local economy,” said MP Lobb. “This investment is important to residents in North Huron and will help deliver community services for the people in this region.”

The Government of Canada is providing up to $125,000 for the Township of North Huron for the rehabilitation and improvements to the North Huron Town hall.

“This $250,000 project, jointly funded by the federal government and North Huron, will restore the architecturally significant exterior of the Town Hall and complement the downtown revitalization and beautification initiatives already underway,” said North Huron Reeve Neil Vincent. “We are fortunate to have such a wonderful historical building to operate and as custodians of this building we are delighted to be providing a much needed face lift. This will extend the life of the building for future generations.”

The project will involve window replacement, masonry repairs, door repairs, exterior painting, and carpentry work if needed. The project will be completed during the 2013 construction season.

Through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund, the Government of Canada has committed to supporting communities and creating jobs through repairs and improvements to existing community facilities over the next two years. Please see the backgrounder for more information on CIIF.
