(ST.MARYS, ON)– On Saturday August 01, 2015, shortly after 10 p.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Church St. South and St.Maria St. in St.Marys.
Investigation revealed that a Chrysler automobile travelling north bound on Church St. South, was T boned within the intersection of St.Maria St an eastbound Chevrolet automobile. The occupants of both vehicles did not sustain injuries. Church St. South is a through roadway with traffic on St.Maria St being controlled by a yield sign.
The male driver of the Chevrolet was found to have consumed alcoholic beverages and failed a roadside breath test. He was transported to the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville where he also failed Intoxilyzer breath tests.
22-year-old Brendan NEAR of St.Marys has been charged with “driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He has also been charged with “fail to yield to traffic on through highway”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on September 08, 2015, where he will have to answer to the charges.
His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and his motor vehicle has been impounded for a period of seven days.
