(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Tuesday July 17, 2012 shortly before 7:30 p.m., Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to a single motor vehicle crash on Perth Road 116 north of Line 73 (east of Millbank).
Investigation revealed that an SUV was driving north bound on Road 116 when it came upon a north bound horse and buggy travelling on the east side of the road. The SUV driver swerved to go around the buggy but lost control on the loose gravel. The SUV fishtailed, entered the east ditch, and rolled. The 17 year old female driver from Linwood sustained minimal injuries but was transported to Listowel Memorial Hospital as a precaution. The SUV sustained extensive damage. There was no contact with the horse or the buggy.
Motorists are urged to pay extra attention to horse and buggies operating on our roadways. When it is safe to do so, slow down when you pass a buggy and leave them space.
