Suspicious Males From More Energy

SUSPICIOUS MALES FROM MORE ENERGY

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – On July 16, 2012 at 2:07 pm, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of 2 suspicious males at a residence along Maple Street in Walkerton. They asked permission to see the water heater which the home owner denied before asking them to leave. There are competing companies working to provide electrical service, and there are also con artists working to trick you out of your hard earned money. A recent trend with scammers is they try to operate in the name of an established, legitimate business. The South Bruce OPP is offering the following tips to help protect area residents from energy scams:

There’s no obligation to open your door to a stranger
Don’t feel obligated to allow strangers into your home
You don’t have to provide a copy of your hydro bill on demand
If you want them to leave, ask them to leave. If they refuse, call police

There’s no magic to preventing fraud. Remember to trust your instincts, not the stranger at the door.

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information that can assist police to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or send a web-tip to crimestop-gb.org, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
