Suspended Driver Points Gun At Off-Duty Officer

Shortly before 1100 a.m. on Friday May 1, 2015 a 31 year old Kitchener man pointed a hand gun at an off duty police officer during an unprovoked attack subsequent to a road rage incident. This occurred in the area of Grand Ridge Drive and St. Andrews Street in the City of Cambridge. The police officer was able to identify himself to a pedestrian who called the Waterloo Regional Police. Prior to police arrival, the unarmed, off duty officer was able to disarm the man and effect an arrest. No involved parties were injured and the handgun was found to be a replica. The man was taken into custody and is being held for bail hearing on charges including assault with a weapon, use of a firearm in an offence, possess weapon dangerous, three counts of drive while under suspension and possession of a controlled substance.
