(Bluewater, ON) On January 10, 2010 at approximately 6:00 pm a Huron OPP officer was patrolling southbound on Airport Line in Bluewater when a northbound vehicle entered his radar at a speed almost twice the legal limit of 80 kph. The officer turned around and activated the emergency lights to stop the vehicle but the driver failed to stop for police. The vehicle ran through the stop sign at Kippen Road and did not slow its’ speed. The vehicle continued north with the officer behind. The officer then observed the vehicle turn into a laneway near Centennial Road and when the cruiser arrived there, the officer found the vehicle stuck in the snowbank.
The lone male occupant of the older GMC Sierra was arrested on the spot. A Search of the vehicle confirmed that there was no valid ownership of insurance. The driver of the vehicle is also a suspended driver for life. As a result of the investigation, a 48 year old Central Huron male is now facing one count of Flight From Police, one count of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, one count of Drive Motor Vehicle With No Insurance, one count of Operate Motor Vehicle With No Current Validation, one count of Racing and one count of Drive While Under Suspension. The man was held in custody pending a bail hearing on January 11, 2010. The vehicle he had been operating was towed and impounded for a period of seven days.
