(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On October 3, 2015 at approximately 9:30 a.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was travelling westbound in a marked cruiser on Wellington Road 17 near Highway 6 in Mapleton Township. The officer was following a 2005 Chevrolet pick-up truck that was towing an open utility trailer when some of the shingles that were in the trailer became airborne and struck the windshield of the police vehicle.
A traffic stop was conducted and investigation revealed that the driver was suspended from driving under the Criminal Code.
62-year-old Carl HILLIARD of Nichol Township has been charged with Operate Motor Vehicle While Disqualified contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, Insecure Load and Draw Trailer – No Permit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on December 1, 2015 to answer to his charges.
