Suspect sought in Carlingwood Mall robbery of a jewelry store

(Ottawa)— The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit is investigating the robbery of a jewelry store and is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect responsible.

On September 2, 2016, at approximately 8:30pm, a lone male suspect entered a jewelry store situated at the Carlingwood Mall. The suspect initially interacted with staff and then left the premises. He returned shortly thereafter, with a hammer which he used to smash a display case. The suspect proceeded to remove an undisclosed quantity of jewelry and fled the premises. The suspect may have sustained a minor injury, probably to his arm or hand, in the process of smashing the display case, as blood was left at the scene. There were no injuries to staff at the store.

The suspect is described as being a Caucasian male, in his 20s, of average height and build. At the time he wore a dark coloured baseball cap with a white logo on the front, with sunglasses on the top of his head, a brown jacket, with a blue button-up shirt underneath, blue jeans, and brown footwear. He had a black bag slung over his right shoulder. (see pictures)
