(Ottawa) — The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid additional charges in relation to two additional retail robberies committed by this suspect.
On July 16, 2015, at approximately 4:15 pm, a lone male suspect entered a grocery store situated along the 500 block of Montreal Rd. The suspect obtained some food items and approached the cashier. On reaching the cashier, the suspect made a demand for cash. When not immediately provided money, he made an additional demand. When he did not obtain any money, he left the store, brandishing a knife on his way out. Nothing was taken and there were no injuries.
The same suspect then attended a business across the street at approximately 4:30 pm. He approached a cashier and made a demand for cash. The suspect produced a knife and obtained an undisclosed quantity of cash. There were no injuries to store staff. The suspect then fled the store and was located in the area by responding Patrol officers. During the course of a short foot pursuit, the suspect threw items at police officers, striking two officers in the face. One officer sustained a minor injury. The suspect was arrested by Patrol officers.
The suspect, David English, is charged with the following offences in relation to these robberies:
Two counts of robbery
Two counts of possession of a weapon
Two counts of assault police
As previously released, David English was already wanted in relation to a July 9 retail robbery. Mr. English appears in court on July 17, 2015.
