Stunt Driver Charged After Goading Off Duty Police Officer

(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Thursday, March 12, 2015 at approximately 8:46 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of vehicles stunt driving on Hwy. 6 & 21 along the Sunset Strip in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

An off-duty OPP officer, operating his personal vehicle at the time, was goaded to race by one of the suspect drivers involved. The officer called in the offence after observing three vehicles racing in tandem westbound on 10th Street – continuing onto Hwy. 6 & 21 on the Sunset Strip. The vehicles, which did “burnouts” at the red lights, proceeded to race one another at speeds greater than the posted speed limit.

A Grey County OPP officer on patrol attended the area and stopped one of the suspect vehicles, a 2004 Chrysler CEX.

The driver, Joseph Christopher MEDA, age 20, of Hanover, was issued a Summons for Racing a Motor Vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act. The vehicle was impounded for seven days.

MEDA is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on Monday, April 27, 2015.
