(Huron East & Central Huron, ON) The Huron OPP is currently investigating a string of break & enters that have occurred in Central Huron and Huron East in the last 3 days. Residents are being urged to take extra precautions to protect their property. This would include locking all doors to your residence and outbuildings. Homeowners are being advised to hide valuables and not advertise the items you own by leaving doors and shed doors open. Homeowners are also being advised to ensure that all valuables are either marked with an engraver or at the very least all serial numbers written down and a photo taken of each item. You may borrow an engraver from your local OPP Detachment to mark your items.
In some cases it would appear that the suspects in these thefts may be knocking at the residence prior to breaking in. One resident answered her door to a male who reported he was having tire problems and he then left the area.
A total value of stolen items from three separate incidents is estimated at over $32,000. In one entry a glass window was smashed to a mud room and then access gained to the residence. In the other two break & enters, doors were left unlocked for the thieves. Items taken range from jewellery to tools.
Anyone seeing any suspicious persons or vehicles in their area is urged to try to obtain a plate number and description of the person or vehicle and then call the OPP immediately at 1-888-310-1122.
