(PERTH COUNTY, ON) During the period of May 10-14, 2010, Perth County OPP officers will be promoting their “Stop and Look†campaign. They will be focussing attention on intersection related offences where drivers fail to stop or yield where required.
OPP statistics indicate that from 2005 – 2009 there were 43 fatal collisions resulting in 50 people being killed on OPP patrolled roads in Perth County. Investigations determined that in 11 of those crashes, failing to stop or yield was the primary cause. These results indicate that one quarter of fatal collisions are a direct result of failing to stop or yield.
During this 5 day campaign, officers will focus their available time on all intersections but a number of specific intersections have been identified as target areas.
Perth County Officers always take intersection violations seriously which is evident in the 2009 charge numbers. During this period, officers issued a total of 207 “fail to Stop/Yield†tickets within the county.
This campaign will hopefully raise the awareness of traffic controls at intersections and will encourage drivers to “Stop and Lookâ€, especially at stop signs. “Remember, don’t become a statisticâ€.
