Stolen Vehicle Recovered – 19 Year Old Faces Numerous Charges

(OWEN SOUND, ON) – On April 19, 2015 at 2:31 p.m., members of the Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) crime unit observed a Brown Honda Civic at the Canadian Tire Gas bar along 16th Street in Owen Sound. The officers ran a check and found that the car had been reported stolen. Officers watched as the driver backed up, almost striking another vehicle, and left with the gas pump handle still in the filler tube. The vehicle was observed to be speeding, by members of the Owen Sound Police Service, as it left the city.

Members of the Grey County OPP and Bruce Peninsula OPP received reports regarding the suspect vehicle travelling at very high speeds. A Bruce Peninsula OPP officer attempted to stop the Brown Honda on Grey Road 135. The suspect vehicle struck the police vehicle causing minor damage; there were no injuries reported.

The Bruce Peninsula OPP located the suspect vehicle abandoned on Frank Street in Wiarton. The occupants of the vehicle were located following a foot chase and arrested without incident.

Nineteen-year-old Jason COPP of Owen Sound has been charged with 2 counts of drive while disqualified, dangerous driving, theft over $5,000, 2 counts of theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, flight from police, fail to stop and possess ammunition while prohibited.

A 15-year-old has been charged with possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and 3 counts of fail to comply with youth order. The accused can’t be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
