On Sunday September 4th, 2016 at 4:00 a.m., a serious single motor vehicle collision occurred involving a stolen black Ford F150 pickup truck. The truck travelled Northbound on Franklin Street North, and travelled through the intersection at Ottawa Street North at a high rate of speed.
The truck drove through a wooden fence and a metal shed before colliding with the rear of a two car detached garage of a residence on Craig Drive. The truck continued through the rear and side walls of the garage coming to a stop inside. The severe damage to the structure resulted in the garage collapsing on the truck and a second car that was parked inside. The driver of the truck was injured and ran from the scene prior to police arrival. Members of the Waterloo Regional Police, Kitchener Fire Department and City of Kitchener Staff attended to assess the damage.
