Stolen Property Recovered – Youth Charged In Listowel

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Saturday June 20, 2015, Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers in Listowel were called to a residence on Donegan St. West, where the homeowner discovered the theft of a Sirius XM radio from a vehicle. The theft had occurred sometime between Friday evening June 19th and Saturday morning June 20th.

On Saturday night June 21st shortly after 11 p.m., Perth County OPP officers attended behind Listowel Central Public School on Binning St. West in response to possible suspicious activity. The officers located a youth in the school yard. The youth was found to be in possession of a Sirius XM radio with a matching serial number of the Sirius XM radio that was stolen from the vehicle parked at the Donegan St.

The youth is charged with “possession of property obtained by crime – under $5,000” contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The youth is to appear at the Youth Court of Justice in Listowel at a later to be determined date.

Residents are urged to adhere to the following suggestions;

Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the door and pocket the key

If you have a garage, use it. Lock the door and the vehicle

Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area

Never leave valuable objects in plain view. If you must leave them in the car, keep them out of sight

Theft is a crime of opportunity that you can help to control. Make your property hard to steal – Lock it or lose it.
