(Ottawa) – The Share the Road Cycling Coalition, along with Mayor Jim Watson and representatives from the National Capital Heavy Construction Association, Citizens for Safe Cycling, the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ottawa Police Service will officially launch its “Stay Safe, Stay Back” campaign on Thursday.
The Stay Safe, Stay Back campaign is an initiative which aims to ensure that both cyclists and heavy truck operators work collaboratively to ensure the safety of cyclists on our roads. The campaign will include messaging on buses, bus shelters and social media advertising. As well, private sector partners from the heavy trucking industry will be attaching campaign decals to their vehicles.

The Share the Road Cycling Coalition (www.sharetheroad.ca) is a provincial cycling advocacy organization that has been working to build a bicycle friendly Ontario since 2008. Share the Road works in partnership with municipal, provincial and federal governments, the business community, road safely organizations and other non-profits to enhance access for bicyclists on roads and trails, improve safety for all bicyclists and educate citizens on the value and importance of safe bicycling for healthy lifestyles and healthy communities.
This initiative supports the Safer Roads Ottawa Program which is a leading community partnership between Ottawa Fire Services, Ottawa Paramedic Service, Ottawa Police Service, Ottawa Public Health and the Public Works Department who are committed to preventing or eliminating road deaths and serious injuries for all people in the City of Ottawa, through culture change, community engagement, and development of a sustainable safe transportation environment.
