Standoff Results in Arrest

On Thursday, October 24, 2013 at approximately 6:00 p.m., members London Police Service attended an address on Jim Ashton Street regarding a break and enter in progress. The person attempting to gain entry had left prior to police arriving.

Information was obtained that one of the occupants of that address was in possession of a shotgun and had barricaded himself in the residence. The area was contained by members of the Uniformed Division and the Emergency Response Unit. The occupant surrendered to police then a warrant was sought by members of the Guns and Drugs Section, consisting of members of London Police and the RCMP.

During the subsequent search of the residence, the following items were seized:

1 sawed off Cooey 12 gauge single barreled shotgun
39 rounds of Federal 12 gauge shotgun shells
3 grams of marihuana

As a result of this investigation, 21-year-old Ryan ABRAHAM was charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

– Two counts of use/handle/store weapons and ammunition carelessly, contrary to section 86(1);
– Possession of a weapon – dangerous to public peace, contrary to section 88(1);
– Unlicenced person possess prohibited weapon, contrary to section 91(2);
– Possess loaded regulated firearm, contrary to section 95(1);
– Two counts of possess firearm/ammunition while prohibited, contrary to section 117.01(1); and
– Possession of a Schedule II substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
