Spike Belts Used To Stop Repeat Offender Dustin LUNZ Near Listowel

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Monday September 19, 2016, shortly before 1 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer patrolling Palmerston observed a stolen pickup truck on Main Street East. The officer made arrangement for interception of the pickup truck by other police units and continued to strategically follow the truck.

The 2005 Dodge pickup truck was followed towards Listowel where at Line 87 and Road 167 (North West of Listowel), attempts were made to pull over the vehicle. The pickup truck continued southbound and subsequently avoided a tire deflation device by colliding with a police cruiser causing minor damage. A short time later, on Line 75 North West of Atwood a tire deflation device was successfully utilized and the male driver of the pickup truck was apprehended without incident.

The driver of the pickup truck, 23-year-old Dustin James LUNZ of Mississauga has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:

Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

Flight while pursued by peace officer

Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

Driving while disqualified

Fail to comply with Recognizance

Fail to comply with Probation order

He has also been charged with “driving while under suspension”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario

He appeared for a bail hearing on Tuesday September 20, 2016, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford, where he was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on Tuesday September 27, 2016.

To avoid vehicle thefts, the Perth County OPP urges everyone to lock their vehicles and remove the ignition key. It sounds so simple, but many vehicle owners just don’t take this to heart.
