Speeding Drunk Driver Caught On London Road Near Hensall

(BLUEWATER, ON) – A 48-year-old from Lucan will be making a trip to court in May to answer to an Over 80 charge that was laid by Huron County Ontario Provincial Police this past weekend. At approximately 2:00 a.m. on March 25, 2016 a Huron OPP officer observed a Chevrolet Malibu speeding southbound on London Road near Hensall.

The officer used a RADAR device to measure the vehicles speed at a high of 117 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. A traffic stop was subsequently conducted and upon speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside screening test was completed and it resulted in a fail for the driver.

The driver was placed under arrest for Driving a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was transported to the Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. He later provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both of his samples registered over the legal limit.

As a result, 48-year-old Todd DAVIES from Lucan has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Speeding, Fail to Surrender Permit and Fail to Have Insurance Card. He was released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for May 9, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
