(NORTH HURON, ON) – A 38-year-old from British Columbia is facing charges of Speeding & Over 80 following a traffic stop that took place early this morning (Mar30) in Blyth.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a Toyota Rav4 travelling southbound on London Road through the village of Belgrave. The officer followed the vehicle and noticed the driver was at times driving well below the speed limit and then well above the speed limits. The officer continued to follow the Rav4 and at one point the speed of the Rav4 accelerated to a speed in excess of 130 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone.
Upon entering the village of Blyth the officer initiated a traffic stop and the driver pulled over without incident. While speaking with the male driver the investigating officer detected the odour of alcohol coming from the driver. As a result a demand was made for the driver to provide a sample of his breath into a roadside screening device.
The driver complied and registered a Fail”. At that point he was placed under arrest and transported to the Huron OPP Detachment where he provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician. Both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
