Speeding Crack Down

(ST.MARYS, ON) Since the end of July 2010, the Perth County OPP in St.Marys has received calls about the high speeds of vehicles travelling on certain streets in town. At present there have been concerns about apparent excessive speed of vehicles on Thomas St.

As a result of these calls and concerns, local officers with the assistance of designated traffic officers have been concentrating their traffic enforcement action in these locations. The OPP radar speed sign has been used to educate and warn motorists on their speeds in the designated speed zones. This deterrent usually creates awareness in drivers and retains a record of the speeds. Mobile and hand held radar units as well as laser speed measuring devises may also be used to enforce the speed limits on the streets in question.

The Perth County OPP wants to remind motorists that travel in our towns that speed limit signs are in place for a specific reason, to keep our communities safe. Summer is a time when we see more children and families playing, walking and riding their bicycles on our streets. Please slow down, obey the rules of the road, avoid distractions and don’t drink and drive.
