On Friday, September 30, 2016 just shortly after 11:30pm, Hamilton Police began investigating reports of an assault taking place at a bar located at 41 Catharine Street North in Hamilton. Police were dispatched to investigate.
The suspect was located by police and as a result of the interactions between police and the suspect in the area of James Street South and Hunter Street West the Special Investigations Unit was notified and invoked their mandate to begin an investigation into the incident.
The area was immediately secured to preserve evidence as part of the now ongoing investigation by the SIU.

The area of the incident is now closed to pedestrians/vehicle traffic until further notice.
Anyone residing in the area or who may need assistance is asked to take direction from police officers on scene who will also attempt to assist you as required.
Please avoid the area if possible and consider alternative routes if not residing or working in the area.
